The study is a non-trivial design. It aimed to analyse the effect of colour on website perception amongst users.
The study used a between-participant design. The independent variable was the colour scheme of the website: Monochrome, Cool Tones, and Warm Tones. Aside from this, they were all identical in theme, content, and layout. The dependent variable was the Likert scale rating on the user satisfaction and experience scales.
39 total participants took part, with 13 people allocated to each condition. To add reliability, participants were randomly assigned to a condition. Following this, they were asked to analyse the website in detail, once they had done this, they had to answer a series of questions regarding content and their feelings towards the colour scheme. The experiential hypothesis can be rejected as there was no significant difference found in the colour scheme on the participant's perception scores. The qualitative data had a thematic analysis which indicated the Warm Tones condition was favoured.
